Approximately 30 km west of Fort Chipewyan.
This large lake is located just west of Athabasca Lake and its name was recorded in the early years of the fur trade in the north-west. Clear Water Lake is referred to in Sir Alexander Mackenzie's journal, October 10, 1792 and the Hudson's Bay Company Fort Chipewyan post journal of 1822 refers to it as Clear Lake. Claire is the French word for "clear."
