Chinook Valley

Valley
84 C

Approximately 32 km north of Grimshaw.

Originally established as a post office in 1931. Chinook Valley is named for the warm dry gusty westerly winds of Alberta, which occur in a belt extending 300 to 400 km, on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains. An aboriginal legend tells of Chinook, a beautiful young woman who wandered away and was lost in the mountains. The bravest warriors searched but failed to find her. Then one day a soft warm wind blew from the west, the spirit of the beautiful Chinook. The Chinook aboriginal group originated on the Pacific Coast.
