Approximately 150 km west of Red Deer.
This range and the other surrounding features are named after Joseph E. Brazeau, who came
from the Missouri region and entered the fur trade in 1830. He was an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company, serving as clerk and postmaster at Edmonton, Jasper and Rocky Mountain House from 1852-64. His linguistic abilities were of great help to the Palliser Expedition. Joseph Brazeau spoke Stoney, Sioux, Saulteaux, Cree, Blackfoot, and Crow. Being of an old Spanish family and educated in the United States, he also spoke English, French,
and Spanish fluently.
