Blindman River

River
83 A

Flows south-east into Red Deer River, approximately 9 km north north-east of Red Deer.

It was noted as Wolf River on the David Thompson map of 1814, and as the Blind River on Palliser's map of 1865. It is the translation of the Cree pâskâpiw meaning "he is blind." The story behind the naming was that a group of Cree was hunting in the vicinity in inter, and became snowblind. J.B. Tyrrell in the 1886 Geological Survey report noted that it was known by the Stoney as is-tap-ta or cham-bath-na-dab wapta, meaning "dead standing timber" river.
