Approximately 100 km south-west of Lethbridge, elevation 2910 m.
Lieutenant Thomas Blakiston of the Royal Artillery was the magnetic observer of the Palliser expedition. He named Mount Blakiston after himself in 1858 during his exploration of the Kootenay Passes. In 1861 he organised and expedition up the Yangtze River in China and went over 1400 km further than any Westerner had done before him. He always had an interest in nature, which led him to compile a catalogue on birds while he was in Japan and on other expeditions. Blakiston Falls and Creek are also named after him.
