Beaumont

Town
83 H

Approximately 20 km south of Edmonton.

This town which was incorporated in 1973 was descriptively named in 1895 for its location. The descriptive name is French for "beautiful mountain." According to the postmaster Charles Monreau who was asked about it in 1905 - "A French priest Father Morin named the place Beaumont because it is situated on a hill from which there is a fine view of the surrounding country. The land is rather rolling in the vicinity and Beaumont is one of the most picturesque spots in this otherwise monotonous country." See also Morinville.
