Balfour, Mount

Approximately 75 km north-west of Banff, on the Alberta-B.C. boundary, elevation 3274 m. This mountain was named by James Hector (see Mount Hector) in 1859 after Professor John Balfour, M.D. (1808-1884). He founded the Botanical Society of Edinburgh in 1836, and was a professor of botany at Glasgow University and Dean of the Medical School at the University of Edinburgh.
