Aden

Locality
72 E

Approximately 115 km south south-west of Medicine Hat.

The first postmaster, Herman E. Anderson, requested that the area be called Aden, after a seaport located at the southern end of the Red Sea, in Arabia, now South Yemen. The post office opened on March 1, 1913. Anderson had been a sailor in that area of the world prior to homesteading in Canada. Some area residents suggested that the Grassy Butte Hills might have reminded Anderson of the coastal regions of Arabia.
